Default Infectus works on Wii D2C, just 13 wires!

The Infectus team has posted up a message that their mod works fine with the D2C Wii chipset and requires 13 wires which is inclusive of the gnd and vcc. They state that in the next few days, a new version of the programmer will be released for this functionality.

If this works out right it could make D2C installations a lot easyer but I doubt that they will be able to emulate the feature set of the D2Ckey.

The confirmation can be found here

It is nice to see a few more options out for the D2C versions of the Wii once we start to see a few more chips prices may come down a little. If you are good with the iron then I would stick with the D2CKey it may have double the wires but it is cheaper in price and I bet has alot better code on it that what the Ifectus chip will have, but again we'll just have to wait and see when it is released in the next few weeks.

I'll be looking forward to this one. There have been too many false alarms lately which has made me a little skeptical but hey, we'll find out soon enough. Going to have to let other people give this a try before I start dumping my money into a new chip, just in case of quality or compatibility issues.

To be honest as far as I know the Infectus is just a FPGA so although it is very flexible it is not custom built for the job. I cant really see them being able to match the feature set of the D2Ckey or its ability to "stealth" patch the drive. But if like has been said it stops D2Ckey having a monopoly then hopefully that will drive down prices(even though the Infectus is more expensive at the moment)

Even though its too early to tell how much do you suppose this chip will cost once released?

The chip is already released and out there for sale with a price tag of $75. This chip is a universal type mod it is currently used in systems such as PS2 and Xbox 360. You can check their site out at infectus.biz and read a bit more about it and how it functions.

I question the claim it works on D2C versions of the Wii for the fact they said they would post pics and programmer in a few hours then turned to days and here we are a week later and still have seen nothing but the claims.

I hope I am wrong and I hope it does work it may make alot of lives easier.

75 bux? Yikes! I guess thats good for those who do their own modding, but if you can solder 13 wires whats another 13+? Otherwise its probably best for others to get a d2ckey installed for the 100$+

Here is an image of an infectus install. Just 13 wires but they are all really close together like the D2Ckey anyway so not that much easier.
