Yay question time!

1) Will the skin have different parts? (Buttons, background and so on)

2) Will each part have .png as a standard for transparency? Or are you going for .tga with alpha?

3) Will you be able to animate a part, if question 1 is yes?

4) Will you be able to add a media thing to play on startup? (Startup chime, startup clip (like the windows loading thing..wastes loading time but it's cool!) )

5) DS Support? (Using your Nintendo DS as a remote control, would require a DS chip cart and the remote control homebrew app)

Hope someone from the DS scene steps up and asks to make a remote control interface on the DS

Anyways, yay now I really can't wait.

The startup video would be cool , I can maybe help making a really short (like 3 sec) Wii Miidia 3D animation, just simple, like lights turned on. revealing the text then it fades and you get to the menu.

Will Wii Miidia be able to play movies from another share in the net?
Either by:
- daapd / iTunes sharing
- upnp
- nfs shares
- samba shares

or something else?

I am willing to help out there -- Linux and programming skills are existent
I could probably start off with the geexbox code as yours is not available. However: If you think it would be worthwhile to work on something there please comment on it.
If at least one of those methods will be available anyways, even better
Cheers

XBMC skinning is very good indeed, like to see how it'll work on Wii Miidia.

Questions:

- Is Wii Miidia going to recognize if your Wii is PAL or NTSF and if it's on 16:9 or 4:3?

- If not, can you set it manually inside Wii Miidia, or in a config file?

- And if you can change that setting, will you than be able to make a specific skin for those modes? (Just like in XBMC)

When all is said and done it should be able to tell it by itself from reading it from the Wii Settings. You can also set it manually and build the skins the same way. When skinning I would suggest multiple backgrounds in size so the user can select it in settings instead of it being stretched or compressed. As for how it works on Wii Miidia it is basicly the exact same as it works on Xbox with a few minor exceptions such as image files will be packed in a wad file instead of an xpr file and the fact all the weather stuff was stripped out. All of the XML commands are basicly the same.

Well, so it is actually a PORT? of XBMC, but with some changes, could I ask you why you put the images in WAD files? i guess these are not the same wad files as for channels oO
does it make you programming easier or what's the reason, I'm just interested

greets

Thumbs up

I've worked a bit on XBMC so this project has me really excited
It looks like you were able to rip most of the skin code which is cool. There have been alot of talented skinners on XBMC and I'm sure you'll at least be seeing some nice ports of their work.

As far as playing media goes though the deal-breaking feature for me is being able to play off of a network share (preferably samba as that is fairly easy to do on win/osx/linux). I'm sure for most people an SD card is just not big enough to hold their media library. Hopefully you can use XBMC's file code for that (I haven't looked into it too much myself).

Anyway thanks for the frequent updates... this is definitely something I'm going to be tracking going forward. We all appreciate the work you've put in this.

NO it's not really a port. More or less a partial port. I ported over the GUI but the backbone of it all had to be recoded since it is not using Wii Linux. Instead I am using the Wii native mode with devkitPPC for all the backend and video. This project started off as a port of XBMC using WiiLinux but was very unstable witch you can see in the Wii version of GeeXbox. As for why the buttons and everything will be in WAD file this is just optional to take up a little less space. Just as some XBMC releases used the xpr to pack the images for the Skin. You will also be able to leave all the png unpacked in the dir for it to function as well. I simply had a wad so I was not transfering as many files back and forth saving me time.

My goal to stream over the network is to use SMB or SMB2 to make the Vista users happy as well. I have not got totally this far in the video coding as of yet but it is on my NEXT todo list. I have been playing with some samples and will try looking into the XBMC ports a little more and see if I can find something usefull there.

The guys at XBMC are great people and if it was not for their awesome app for the xbox I would have never attempted this one myself. I have much respect for them as this has been a HUGE task on me as I am sure it was on them.

Ok as I said I would release a skin sample. This is a very crude one that I have been using just for testing. THIS IS NOT FULLY COMPLETE but I didnt want another day to go by with nothing to show. As I said in the post before the entire GUI was ported over from XBMC so skins should be interchangable with a few exceptions in some calls inside of the XML files. I have alot of serious stuff going on right now and am having a hard time spending time on this project but am trying to get as much time on it as I can, but life outside the forum and real problems suck!
