Lightbulb Custom Firmware/Pandora Battery

The number one creator of custom firmware is Dark_Alex.

To download the latest custom firmware goto http://www.dark-alex.org/

He is also one of the creators of the Pandora Battery which can also be downloaded at his site.

The pandora battery is the unbricker for bad flashed PSPs. If it still has a hardware fault it will not fix that.

I'm thinking of buying a psp to try the custom firmwares out and could do with a up to date noob guide to the process. I have never been into the Playstation Scene sticking with the Xbox and Nintendo's consoles so I need a complete ground up look at the whole thing.

It's pretty easy, the hard bit if getting the right PSP.

If you want to run homebrew/custom firmware you need either a friend with a cfw psp or get a psp with cfw on it already or firmware 1.50

If your going to be playing around with firmwares and moddifying then its best to get a spare battery and a 256mb MS and make a pandora combo. (MS and battery)
That way if anything goes wrong its ok and you wont have a brick.

Why would I need a friend with a already cfw/homebrew psp I thought that you could downgrade it with software?

If you brought a PSP Slim then no, you'll need a CFW PSP to put CFW onto it.
If you buy a second hand phat one thats more likely to already have CFW on it or a lower firmware that can be downgraded.

I think Lumines can downgrade from 3.50 (I think its 350?) So if you get it with anything under firmware 3.50 then you will also need a copy of that.

I work in a games store and can pretty much pick whichever firmware I like from the preowned stock. Im leaning towards a fw2.8 unit that was traded in absolutely brand new as an unwanted gift. Its a giga pack as well but its priced like a base as my store has stopped taking anything but base packs and told us to take everything in as if it were one. Plus staff discount makes it a v ery sweet deal but I need to know what im gonna need to get the thing modded.

A few questions ;

1. Will i need lumines to downgrade a 2.8?

2. Where can I find a good up to date tutorial to aid the process?

3. What are the dangers of bricking the thing with these processes?

Any other relevent info would be great.

I also could use a hand here guys. I bought a PSP in order to offer mods on it, but here I am scratching my head trying to figure out how the hell to downgrade from v3.71 in order to use the regular Custom Firmwares.

Anyone here know what options I have if any? Or is this firmware currently playing the waiting game for something new to come out?

Default Dark AleX's PSP Fat 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33

File Name 150_addon.rar
File Type RAR
Developer Dark Alex
Operating System PSP
File Size 0.08 MB
Created 09/30/2007
Updated 11/14/2007

File Description
Dark AleX has finally released what he was promising a few days back: the 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33. It's here, and it's mighty, and we're reeling in shock.

Installation instructions are pretty easy and straight forward. They're found in the read me, so you better take a look at that. Also, please note that this homebrew hack is only for PSP Fat. As DAX puts it in the read me: "The Program will reject PSP Slim, due to the 1.50 kernel not working on it."
