This is the tight-ass's way to get your wii modded
this tutorial is based on the assumption that you can solder, if you cannot solder than this guide will be inaccurate.
getting your chip
if you have a business email address then you can sign up at
ReDirect (don't lie about address)
then click the sample button on their web page
and for "product line" select "PIC Microcontrollers" then for "Device Family" choose "PIC 12f683" and next to "PIC12F683-I/P" click the orange square
you then do this with 3 other chips of your choice. when you've chosen your four chips click "checkout" (under "Samples Cart")
and fill out the required info
if you don't have a business email you will need to sign up at
this email provider as microchip.com doesn't allow sampling for email providers such as hotmail or gmail
Building The Programmer
you can use the the diagram below:
the parts are available from here:
2.2k resistor 22k resistor 10k resistor bs170 transistor pic socket - get two of these (you'll need the other one later)
serial connector
for the usb cable just cut up an old one
if you cant solder than just buy one of these:
JDM Programmer
Programming
download the newest version of YAOSM here:
WiiNewz Forums
download WinPic:
http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/winpic/winpicpr.zip
install it and open "yaosm_12F683.hex", click on the "device config" tab and in the drop down menu, choose "PIC12F683"
then click the button with the red arrow pointing at the chip to program it to your chip
Installation
install it in your wii using the spare pic socket (you ordered 2 remember) instead of the chip that is shown in the diagram, this will make the chip future proof as it will allow it to be removed from the wii and be updated via programmer
once installed put chip in socket making sure that the indent matches up with the one on the socket, make sure the first disk inserted in your wii is from your region otherwise you will have to re-program it
end result = modded wii for nothing but mere pocket change
Do not attempt this on your wii unless you have a DMS, D2A or D2B drive chip
