You would be correct in saying that. That has what puhed this so far behind.

It is better for the project not to be dependent on anything but there has been a new release of wii-linux though the MPlayer code is probably still messed up.

The new WiiLinux release can play mp3 files from the SD Card or an external USB Drive. But other thatn that, it is to primitive on the wii to make a code compiled right from linux and it would be better to just code it from the wii itself.

Interesting, some one has released a hacked together version of GeexBox for Wii. Its pretty unstable and tbh not usable, but the video playback seems smooth and looks correct, a fixed MFE basically - but I hate the menu system, keyboard or not, the point of a media system on the Wii is to be able to do everything with the WiiMote, otherwise you may as well sit at your computer!!

You asked for ideas, so how about this:

For the fast forward/rewind, lock the Wii pointer to one axis and use its position on that axis to control speed forward and back, like a scrubber (ish).

Store a .idx file alongside the media being played that keeps track of playback position when the file is closed, giving the option to resume where you left off. Could also be used to indicate how many times something has been played or if its been played at all - useful for a dir that may contain 24 eps of a series and you forget which you need to see next, etc.

Favourites dock - an auto show/hide dock (OSX style maybe) where you can just drag and drop items to a favourites list, which can be accessed from the dock its self

A button that when pressed causes the Wii to dispense hot-chocolate and biscuits, maybe even popcorn (although I know popcorn is hard to code).

I must say that this would be the best one of them all. I agree about the popcorn code the problem would be the kernels may not pop correctly and could cause choaking LOL!!!

see you arround,
To be honest I have no date at the moment I would like to give an estimated one but learned a good lesson 1st time I did. I have had to start on video code from ground up due to all the problems I had just trying to do a simple port. As you may see GeeXbox has been released and it showcases all of the bugs that I was trying to fix that eventually pushed back the release. I am spending about 4 hours a day on the project video code is not as easy as I thought it would be but it will not depend on the wiilinux nor be limited to its development. I do however have the MP3/Audio support complete as well as image viewer and network streaming functions right now the video is the only thing holding me back.

The port of GeeXboX still appears to be buggy. Parts of the video are choppy and there are a few times where come random stuff just appears on the screen. I agree that the menu sucks. To me, it's worse than MFE! But also, it's dependent on WiiLinux, which isn't a good thing. It would be best to run on just wii code, that way, it could become the best possible quality for the wii that it can.

That's great! And if you keep working on the project as much as you are it could be done in a month(s). I loooove you lol Great Work!
But I'm not going to be expecting it right then. I know that problems could arise and push the project back. There could always be things that will alter the progress of the project, in both good and bad.
