I doubt the wii has USB 1.1, cause there's a USB to LAN Adapter for the wii and the LAN Connection would be slow as HELL if it only has USB 1.1

So I bet it's a problem with the USB Drivers!

USB 1.1 is 12 Mbits/s which is more than the speed of 90% of home internet connections. I have a pretty fast Comcast connection and it's 10 mbps. The Wii runs on a 802.11b connection, which is also only 11 mbps. Basically... USB 1.1 is more than enough for an internet connection and should be more than enough for streaming video from usb or the network.

Now that they have unlocked dvd reading with custom firmwares will you be adding dvd video in the initial or future releases?

If you look at the specs on Nintendo's site it mentions that the Wii has two USB 2.0 ports. I do not think that the issue is that the are USB 1.1, the issue is the fact that devs are having a difficult time hooking the ports and caching the data properly.

only USB 1.1 at full speed is 12 Mbit/s, USB 1.1 at low speed is 1.5 Mbit/s

This is a bit useless since you'll still need a drive chip. The custom IOS hack only enabled reading the whole DVD because reading before a certain offset is blocked in the original IOS. For the Wii DVD drive to be able to read home burned discs, the firmware of the DVD drive needs te be hacked as well. Now it's only able to read original (retail) DVDs.

My point was that once USB code is fully functional and working properly then even 1.1 will be more then enough to support reading video and audio streams over a network. Even if the Wii were only 1.1, proper USB code will be more than enough for what most people will want to do on it. Basically it's not a USB hardware issue, it's an issue with writing good USB code.

Yeah it might be enough. The current homebrew USB driver code uses IOS calls which handle communication with the USB devices, so I think it's rather the IOS which doesnt read at full speed. So it might take a custom low level USB driver which needs to hacked into the IOS.

Works excellent!

Once I found and edited SD:\GEEXBOX\etc\network and adjusted the settings there, playing files from samba shares worked great!

PS: I have a ninty USB lan adapter.
