it's nice to see different media players on the wii: geexbox, mplayerwii and wii mfe are allready out there, and all do great things for the wii homebrew community, and i think that wii miidia will be a great addition to that list! i don't know if it will be the best, but i do know it's the one with the most potential to make the wii into a multi-media monster!

Wow... I've been trying to register on the forum for about a month now and have been coming here pretty much everyday on my "work hours"...

In short the prospects of wii miidia are huge and i am really looking forward to it. I have a shared network drive hooked up to my router (actually its a time capsule) and i can't wait to play all the miidia files on there on my wii.

I haven't tested out the new GEEXBOX but seeing as it doesn't have wireless support it doesn't work for me. (BTW is wii miidia going to support wifi?)

PROPS TO dCiSO.. Looking forward to the release but take your time its your project.

I'll just crawl back in my hole of obscurity while i stalk this thread...

I know the last few posts have been about GeeXboX and I'm sure some people are stubborn to use it, but I wanted to make a report:

It does have USB support and it CAN stream Standard Definition movies from a USB drive with no huge quality loss/hiccups. I am using a USB 1.1 laptop IDE drive bay that worked like a champ. I streamed a standard 700MB avi movie (which took maybe 8 seconds to load from the get go), but after that, it was smooth sailing.

Maybe that will put a cap on the banter of whether or not you can stream videos from the Wii's USB ports.
The answer is YES!

I can't wait for Wifi support in WiiLinux. Then I might be able to finally use some of the apt-get tools. Also, since GeexboX appears to be keeping up with WiiLinux, it will probably have wifi in it's next release as long as it comes out on WiiLinux. Until then, I'm gonna wait for WiiMiidia! It has Network, USB, and SD Support, and I'm pretty sure it will include wifi as that's already available in some other apps and not dependant on Linux. Also, the GUI looks promising, especially with skinning available. You guys should make a separate page for Skins to be available (Please include preview pictures if you can).

Have been testing out Geexbox all evening. The USB support is great. I have been able to load up an old 40gb laptop drive in a 2.0 enclosure with tons of xvids and they all play flawlessly. Now if we could just get some WiFi support! This should tide me over until WiiMiidia is released...

the Sample Skin is REALLY great! But what's missing is actually a way to see how the skins we are making do, cause they don't work with XBMC!

But what my question is, is this program runnin in 576i or 480i/p? I think that's needed when I do a skin I have to do both am I right?

The Skin should be made one for each. It will stretch the background or shrink it but buttons tend to go out of whack if placed out of range.

Video Code is about 85% - 90% I was helping some other people on some of their projects so have had it on the back burner a little bit.

Some new developments in the X86 based CPU has really been taking up all of my time. Some fun stuff if you dabble in the kinds of things I do outside of the console scene.
