I think with your lack of time, making this open source would be much better for everyone, might get some people spotting some bugs before release as well. What do others think? | I dont think making it open source before an initial release is made is the best idea because then a lot of different people may want to add stuff and we may end up with 20 premature versions I could understand Dciso giving the current code to 1 or maybe even 2 Select person(s) to work on/maintain while he doesn't have time or traveling(Im not saying you should do this, Dciso, Im just saying it would be better than making it open source right now before it's released). |

| I don't think the project should go open source right now. I think everybody should just be patient and let dCiSo do his job when he has the time for it. I'm following all the media players out there, and this one still looks the most prommising one. Geexbox works great on an NTSF wii, but does it poor on a PAL wii. Mplayer Wii does a good job, but no subtittles and no files bigger than 800 mb. They all have good and bad stuff, and i think Wii Miidia is the answer to it all. But if you make it open source before there is a steady working version. Than the final and real Wii Miidia by dCiSo will be lost in the other releases. Maybe 1 or 2 really good programmers to help, and maybe a 4 person test team to take most of the bugs out. (4 because you need 2 NTSF and 2 PAL testers minimum.)

| normally i would agree with what you are all saying, but the problem is this is taking a ridiculously long time. Quote:

but all in all, good work dciso......it's just that my impatience is starting to show |

| Im sorry, but Im getting impatient as well. As much as I would like to see it finished and released by disco in due time, I have just pretty much lost hope of seeing this project released.
I think the source code should be released.
No offense to you disco, I know you have spent a lot of time and hard work in this, but I think the public wants what it was promised months ago. |

I have sat back and endured enough of everyones complaints for a long time. Nothing was ever promised to anyone this was a project that I started off working on for myself because there was nothing like it at the time, since then there have been many developments in this department of homebrew and if you dont want to wait on it then DON'T go code your own since everyone thinks it is such an easy task or go download one of the other apps out there. I am not in this for fame or anything like that if it was all about fame I would have just put my life on hold and focused only on this project. The fact is this project doesnt pay my bills and it doesn't spend time with my family for me either.
As for releasing the source code I have shared it with a few people already to try and help me get it done a bit faster but everyone just assumes what they like. The 1st attempt at this project failed and I turned over all of the source to another team who put it to good use.
So I am sorry if that is not good enough for you but my real life and family comes 1st and if you got a problem with that then honestly all I can really say is FUCK OFF and get a Life!

| i'm with dCiSo, this is still homebrew what we're talking about! And a forum like this should be for POSITIVE feedback or comments.
If you just want to play movies on your wii, than install Mplayer Wii or GeeXboX, works great 90% of the time, and the other 10% you can whine about on there forums :P
Keep it up dCiSo!

Never bothered to register before, but I'd just like to say that I'm sure that the complainers are just the vocal minority. I mean, I didn't see the need to post anything, since homebrew development never goes smoothly, only impatient whiners actually have anything to post about.
If you get this project finished, it'll instantly be the best Wii media player out there (SAMBA support + Wifi support = insta win). There's no point releasing it if it's not finished, and that's fine. Just thought I'd wish you good luck with the project.
PS Not sure if I can remember wifi being confirmed, but still, the features you've talked about so far would be a very impressive foundation for any media centre. |

| Kinda falling back to old habits in this thread
Hopefully there's no need for another reset ....
And it's a normal thing that open source and one man projects in specific take long. It's a hobby not a job!
Coding takes time and especially a/v de-/coding (on a new device!) is a horrible thing to code. |
