OK time for some status updates on the project. Video code is starting to come together now. The nice thing about having to redo the video from the ground up instead of taking the shortcut and importing MFE is I have been able to incorperate a few things that I was not going to include in the initial release. One of these things are USB Support. I have done this for a few reasons. One of the main reasons is I am changing some of the GUI so it will be easier to skin and would like to give the user the ability to load custom skin from usb device or sd card. I figure giving it the use of USB device it leaves more room on SD for other homebrew applications and tools the end users may want to use.

Another thing I have decided to do is make use of keyboard so that the user can enter the shoutcast server info from keyboard instead of needing to have a premade list saved in a file.

Well that is about it for right now hope to post some more as it comes along. Once again I would also like to apologize to everyone for the delays and thank all of those who are being patient. In the long run it may be way behind but it is going to be alot better once released especially with all the new stuff that has come along in devkitPPC 15

Respect.

Been following this thread for some time now. Realy looking forward to see this project of yours comming together.
Will this project be open source once you've released an official version? Only asking out of curiosity, I'm not a coder myself, I'm an illustrator and an ainimator and I'm realy thilled by the fact that you're allowing custom skins for this project of yours.

Default These features were worth waiting for

Great Job dCiSo WiiMiidia keeps on getting better. I would like to apologize for posting some BS earlier when you were having problems with the MFE code. It's worth waiting for WiiMiidia with all these new features. Thanks for keeping us updated on the new additions to the code. WiiMiidia will be amazing. I'm voting for it as Homebrew of the month in July.

Honestly if it was not for all the bugs in the MFE code I feel the initial release of this app would have done it no justice. Most of these features are only being added now because it is easier to do it while rebuilding the code and there has been a great deal of additions to the DevkitproPPC as most can see now that I am taking full advantange of (xml, stable wiimote, usb storage). I am still upset that it caused such a delay but again thats what I get for trying to cut corners when I should have done everything from the ground up to start.

The GUI is going to be a little different and any suggestions or feedback to how you guys may prefer it would be great. As always I am open to any and all ideas and suggestions.

From your title screen on the first post, looks like the gui is pretty intuitive already. I think keeping with thumbnails of the videos with some text at the bottom when you mouse over would work. A really cool feature would be to let the user select the frame to use for the thumbnail (i.e. the title frame of the movie).

Could you have popup text labels when you have the cursor over an icon, like on the wii menu?

I don't think that's a good idea, just imagine doing that for your entire media collection. What I'd like to see would be a library that scans selected folders on SD/USB as well as selected network sources and creates a list of the different media types instead of a file explorer kind of view. That way you wouldn't have to browse many different directories but instead select the type of media you want to browse (e.g. TV, Movie, Music, Images) and the library could present the selected media in a simple way.

A file explorer view would prolly take most of the screen to be useful, but if you treat it like a library you could have an Apple-ish list of screenshots or movie-posters/album-posters that scrolls sideways just like in the iPhone. You could even use the acceleration of the WiiMote to drag and scroll that list however fast you want. And if you're media filenames follow the syntax of scene releases they could provide enough information to let WiiMedia gather additional information automatically via IMDB (provided your Wii has an open internet connection).

This might be the worst idea I've ever heard.

This interface is what is found in the Homebrew Channel and a similar interface was first released with the Homebrew Launcher. This would make Thumbnail/Title Display much easier and you could probably get the code from some of the folks over at #wiidev, since they were the onces who made the Homebrew Channel after all.
I don't think people want to have to put media files in separate folders with xmls and icons(especially if they have a lot of files and want to stream files from the computer) thats NOT a good feature for a media player.
